Clemson Football Rumors: Brent Venables to LSU?

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

We have received several inquiries through messages asking about Clemson football defensive coordinator Brent Venables taking the head coaching job at LSU.

Is Brent Venables heading to LSU?

Could Coach V take the job at LSU now that Les Miles is gone?

Do you think that Brent Venables would take a head coaching job in Baton Rouge?

Would LSU consider bringing in Coach Venables to replace Les Miles?

It’s been phrased in many different ways, but for some reason, many Clemson football fans are overreacting to LSU firing long-time head coach Les Miles after a tough loss to Auburn.

The answer to all those questions is: NO.

Brent Venables is not going to LSU. He’s not going to the fake Death Valley and he will not be wearing purple and yellow anytime soon.

From what I’ve heard and everyone I’ve talked to, LSU is looking to bring in an offensive mind.

While Coach Venables is, in my opinion, one of the best coaches in the country, I don’t believe LSU will take a look at anybody on the defensive side of the ball.

The names thrown around include guys like Tom Herman, Art Briles, Jimbo Fisher (which is not gonna happen), and several other offensive coordinators.

I have no doubt that Brent Venables will build something special someday, but right now he is content with Clemson football and I don’t think he is going anywhere anytime soon.

LSU will probably pursue Tom Herman from Houston, but I wouldn’t be shocked if they- being the type of program they are- offered Art Briles the Head Coaching job at the end of the season.

Nevertheless, the answer to your question is no. Brent Venables, as far as we know, is not considering the LSU Head Coach position.
