Clemson players not buying into the 'Bama hype
If you listen to the majority of the hype heading into the National Championship, you might be surprised to discover which team is ranked No. 1 and undefeated, because it isn't Alabama. The Crimson Tide, as of Wednesday, are currently a touchdown favorite over ACC Champion Clemson.
But you don't have to tell that to Clemson sophomore receiver Artavis Scott, he isn't buying into the Crimson Tide hype at all.
“People look at Alabama and they look at the name. That’s all their doing,” Scott said. “That’s how most teams get beat is because they play from a name and not a standard. If it was anyone else they would have never said that. It is what it is.”
His teammate junior linebacker Travis Blanks says his team has grown accustom to being the underdog in big games against traditional powerhouse programs.
“You go back to every big game we played this year, we were underdogs,” Blanks said. “Notre Dame, Florida State, just go down the list. Some people picked us as an underdog in the ACC Championship against North Carolina. Oklahoma, this year and last year. It’s just all bologna.”
Judging by the player's reactions, don't expect Clemson to be phased by playing the David role to Alabama's Goliath on the national stage. It wouldn't be the first time the Tigers have overcome the odds on the football field.
