Colorado Recruiting: Massive Juco DT Javier Edwards commits to Buffaloes

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 1:24 p.m. ET

The Colorado Buffaloes landed a big signing recently when junior college transfer Javier Edwards verbally committed to the school.

The Buffs added to an increasingly impressive 2017 recruiting class by getting the 6’2″, 325-pound Edwards, who had interest from as many as 10 schools, including Florida, who had to think they’d get him. In fact, Edwards had committed to Florida this summer but changed his mind just two weeks ago.

Born in Houston, Edwards has been playing at Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. He caught the eye of former NFL player and current Colorado defensive line coach Jim Jeffcoat, who worked hard to get him to Colorado.

Listed as a three-star recruit, Edwards could be considered the crown jewel of next year’s recruiting class as the No. 63 ranked prospect at the defensive tackle position in the nation. At 20 years old, he could be a dominant player along a defensive line that will lose seniors Josh Tupou, Jordan Carrell and Samson Kafovalu following the Alamo Bowl.

Here, you can take a look at some footage of Edwards in action, couresy of his Hudl.com profile.

Edwards is credited with two sacks and 51 tackles in two seasons at Blinn, including 4.5 tackles for loss. The Buffaloes will hope they’ve found a tough, physical space eater that who can help defend against the run.

With the addition of Edwards, the Buffs now have three players ranked inside the top 100 prospects at their respective positions nationally in their 2017 recruiting class. This includes Missouri wide receiver Dante Wigley (No. 77)  and Jake Moretti (No. 83), an offensive lineman who attended Pomona High School in Arvada.

Here at Glory Colorado, we will have more scouting profiles on each of these recruits during the offseason.
