Curious case of Mike Freeze still without an answer
Whether or not he knows more than he's letting on, TCU coach Gary Patterson isn't providing many clues as to what exactly spurred true freshman starting linebacker Mike Freeze to leave the team after the Horned Frogs' opening game.
Freeze won the starting job in the spring, played in the season-opening win at Minnesota and then stunned everybody by taking an indefinite leave of absence. At the time, Patterson said all he knew was Freeze was leaving for personal reasons.
A week later, Patterson told reporters that he doesn't even know if Freeze is still enrolled at TCU.

"I think we’re giving him some [time],” Patterson told reporters Tuesday. “That time will run out when it comes to drop date.”
Patterson said he does not believe Freeze, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound linebacker from Graham, Texas, will return to the team, although he said the player would be welcomed back.
"Yep. Why not?” Patterson said. “He didn’t do anything wrong."
Freeze's absence left TCU without its two starting linebackers in Patterson's 4-2-5 scheme. The team's only experienced player at the position, Sammy Douglas, was injured in the Minnesota game. Patterson said he doesn't anticipate a change in Freeze's status.
"No. No, I don’t anticipate," Patterson said.
