Dan Mullen addresses speculation he is searching for a new job
It's that time of year again, Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen's name is being rumored for jobs all across the country after another successful season in Starkville.
Mullen was in attendance at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Tuesday to see his quarterback Dak Prescott win the Conerly Trophy - given annually to Mississippi's top college football player. After the award ceremony, Mullen fielded questions from reporters regarding speculation he is searching for a new team to coach.
“I’m not talking about any of that,” Mullen said, according to the Clarion Ledger. “Every year I come here, every single year, you guys ask me the same questions. I’m not going to waste my time commenting on rumors on the Internet.”
It's fair to say Mullen didn't exactly address any particular speculation or deny that any interview or discussions took place between himself and another school with his comments.
“It’s the same deal. The only year you haven’t asked is my first year as the head coach. Same thing,” Mullen said. “Just because it’s on the Internet doesn’t mean it’s true.
“I think the year for us, every single year it’s the exact same thing,” Mullen said. “A couple years ago I was here at dinner while I was signing a contract at Penn State. The next year I was in Colorado and four and five different cities in one day when I was sitting at this award.”
