Dana Holgorsen sees no need to change vetting program

The recent scandal surrounding Baylor and its handling of prized defensive end Sam Ukwuachu, who was sentenced to 180 days in jail and 10 years of probation Friday after sexually assaulting a female student, has forced schools and athletic departments to assess their process of vetting transfers with past disciplinary issues.

For West Virginia football coach Dana Holgorsen, whose team plays the Bears Oct. 17, his approach to the situation is uniform.

“We have always done the same thing,” Holgorsen said. “We’ve done background checks on guys based on high school coaches, junior-college coaches and former coaches. We put everything in our administration’s hands, and, if there is an issue, then we will make a decision on what is best for this university.”
