Deante Burton strives to make history at K-State
Deante Burton isn't just ready to undertake the hefty task of replacing star receivers Tyler Lockett and Curry Sexton at Kansas State. He's setting the bar higher than that.
After being challenged by the ex-Wildcat receivers to carry the torch into 2015, he's embodied the mindset that he needs to become KSU's next star receiver.
Burton showed flashes of brilliance in K-State's spring game, in which he caught for 107 yards.
"I don't see why I couldn’t follow right in their footsteps and make big plays of my own," he told the Manhattan Mercury. "Put myself in history here. The sky is the limit on what I can do for myself and this team."
The rising junior receiver understands there will be challenges that face him in not just achieving success, but in maintaining in, as well.
"We play in a league where defenses get smarter and smarter every day," Burton noted. "If you go into a game and catch three deep balls, the next week, you're not going to get behind anyone."
