Defense could be the difference for Oklahoma State

Mason Rudolph came out of redshirt last season and led Oklahoma State to three wins in a row at the end of the season.

The quarterback was the talk of the town and the conference with his outstanding quarterback play that helped OSU beat Oklahoma and win a bowl game over Washington.

But this season, coach Mike Gundy said it's the defense people could be talking about.

“We have a chance to be pretty good out there on defense,” Gundy said to ESPN. “I'm really excited about watching them play. Their practices and their aggressiveness have been good up to this point."

Team speed should be improved and the depth is better than ever, despite losing cornerback Kevin Peterson to an ankle injury for the next few weeks.

Watch for Emmanuel Ogbah at defensive end. He had 11 sacks and 17 tackles for losses last season as a sophomore. Jimmy Bean is the other defensive end. Complimenting them are four players with experience at cornerback, including preseason All-Big 12 pick Kevin Peterson.

“The point they were at last year, at this time, is complete night and day,” said receiver David Glidden, to ESPN who battles OSU’s secondary every practice. “It’s almost as if we’re going against different players. From top to bottom, those guys are making plays. For me to get open is so much more difficult than what it was last year at this time.”
