Defensive analyst Clay breaks down role at Oklahoma State
When Bill Clay was hired in February as a defensive analyst, many wondered what his job would entail and how involved he'd be in Oklahoma State's defense.
As he describes in an interview with The Oklahoman, Clay, who was an assistant coach for 47 years, will primarily be tasked with thoroughly breaking down the opposing team's defense.
"I can pretty much break a team down and give you some insight into what to expect," the veteran 73-year-old coach said.
"Whoever they’re playing this week?" he continued. "Who is their best receiver? Who is their best running back? What style of offense are they? What style of quarterback is it? How do they block the running plays? How do they block the passing plays? I will have spent a whole week on that and I can give (defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer) a jumpstart on Sunday that would put them at least a half-a-day ahead."
