Derwin James Injury Update: Florida State Safety Out vs. Louisville
Florida State Seminoles star safety Derwin James will not be playing in Saturday’s game against the Louisville Cardinals due to a knee injury.
The Florida State Seminoles are preparing for another tough test on Saturday against the Louisville Cardinals. However, they will be doing so without one of their stars in safety Derwin James.
According to Matt Baker from the Tampa Bay Times, the Seminoles sophomore defensive back is having surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left knee. Although there is no structural damage, James is expected to miss anywhere from two to six weeks.
“We’ll go in and see, and his time out will be depending on how it’s repaired,” Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher said in a press conference. “If it’s torn or something, we’ll have to jag it and cut it, and it’s actually less time back. If they sow it or tack it down or whatever they say to do, it could be more time. We’ll do whatever’s best for him.”
Losing James is a huge blow to the Seminoles defense. The Florida State safety is considered one of the most talented defensive players in the nation, even as a sophomore. Without James, the Seminoles will have to find other ways to contain Louisville’s electric quarterback Lamar Jackson, who already have 13 total touchdowns in two games.

Florida State and Louisville will be going head-to-head at 12 p.m. ET on ABC. Seminoles fans are hoping that the rest of the defense can step up in James’ absence, or Florida State could be at risk of going down later this week.
