Desmond Howard, photographer settle dispute over Heisman pose photo
DETROIT -- Former college football star Desmond Howard will get the copyright to a famous photo of him in a Heisman Trophy pose after scoring a touchdown against Ohio State in 1991.
Attorneys for Howard and photographer Brian Masck announced the agreement Tuesday. Masck still is expected to benefit from commercial use of the photo, which was taken when Howard played for Michigan.
Masck sued Howard and others for unauthorized use of the photo, although Masck failed to get a copyright until 2011.
The agreement doesn't end Masck's lawsuit in Detroit federal court against other parties, including Sports Illustrated, Amazon.com Inc., Nissan North America and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
Howard won the Heisman Trophy as college football's best player in 1991 and played 11 seasons in the NFL. He's now an ESPN analyst.
