Doctson gave the Frogs a scare and then simply couldn't be contained

When the head coach comes onto the field to check out a star player laying flat on his back, the hearts of fans immediately sink.

And for TCU fans, having seen one player after another leave the field during the first half of the season, it probably seemed inevitable that star wide receiver Josh Doctson was next.

One of the nation's most dangerous pass-catchers took a big hit after making a catch for a 25-yard gain in the first quarter of Saturday's game at Iowa State. Athletic trainers scanned him over, taking enough time and care that even coach Gary Patterson came out to take a look.

“I knew right when I got up that I’d get a shot and be good,” Doctson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Be good? How about be great?

The senior was back on the field in the second quarter and finished with 10 catches for 190 yards and two touchdowns in the 45-21 victory over the Cyclones. The nation's leader in receiving yards with 1,067, played through the remainder of the Iowa State game with what was described by Patterson as a hip pointer. And really, who knows how many others bumps and bruises while playing for a seventh consecutive week.

“Got a little banged up, but I know I needed to be out there,” Doctson said.

He did what he had to do to get No. 3 TCU to 7-0 and 4-0 in the Big 12 heading into this week's much-needed bye week.

And when he returns to action in a week from Thursday against West Virginia, Doctson will be gunning for a sixth consecutive game with 100 yards and at least one touchdown.
