Doctson sets TD record, then gets congratulations from former holder
Josh Doctson wasn't even recruited by TCU coming out of a nearby high school. He went to Wyoming to start his career, and when he decided he wanted to be closer to home, he had to walk-on to Gary Patterson's Horned Frogs.
A few years later, Patterson's sure glad he did.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-3 receiver from Mansfield, Texas, became TCU's all-time receiving touchdowns leader. Doctson's record-setting 22nd career touchdown came on a 29-yard catch from the arm of backup tailback Shaun Nixon on a trick play in the 50-7 rout of Texas.
Former record-holder Josh Boyce, a 2013 fourth-round pick of the New England Patriots, was at the game and waiting to congratulate him. Boyce, who didn't have the benefit of playing in TCU's second-year "Air Raid" offense, caught 21 touchdown passes from 2010-2012.

Doctson, now a senior, arrived in 2013, scoring just four touchdowns. He flourished in last year's new scheme, hauling in 11 touchdown catches last season, some with dramatic, athletic flair.
He already has eight touchdown receptions this season in just five games.
"It was special because he was there," Doctson said, via the Dallas Morning News. "I saw him on the sidelines. He's the first one to give me a hug, so it was pretty cool, pretty neat."
Perhaps one day soon, Doctson will be the one on the sideline to pass along a congratulatory hug to a new record holder. Already freshman receiver KaVontea Turpin has six touchdown catches, including four in Saturday's win over Texas.
