Double-threat Davis helps Alabama St. past Texas Southern
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — KHA'Darris Davis accounted for 275 total yards and three touchdowns and Alabama State beat Texas Southern 30-21 on Saturday.
Davis was 16-for-25 passing for 171 yards and threw for two touchdowns and ran for 104 yards on 24 carries with a touchdown. Davis sealed the win when he threw a 1-yard touchdown to Michael Jefferson early in the fourth quarter for a 28-21 Hornets lead.
Alabama State (3-5, 2-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) managed to overcome 103 yards worth of penalties with the help of two interceptions by Joshua Hill. His pick-6 three minutes into the game put the Hornets ahead 7-0.
Texas Southern (2-7, 1-5) never led. Bobby Hartzog Jr., had four receptions for 113 yards, Tren'Davian Dickson had 103 yards receiving and a touchdown and Brad Woodard carried 17 times for 72 yards and two scores.
