Dravon Henry comfortable, confident at WVU approaching sophomore season
Safety Dravon Henry started all 13 games for West Virginia in his true freshman season. He had his share of growing pains last year, but he's now as confident as ever heading into his sophomore campaign.
"It feels good because now I'm feeling comfortable with the system and with the players around me," Henry told the Dominion Post. "I feel like I know what I have to do and I know my responsibility in the defense. I'm ready for this year."
The 5-foot-11, 200-pound safety first flashed his potential in his opening game as a Mountaineer, in which West Virginia played SEC powerhouse Alabama. Despite having no experience at the college level, Henry recorded six tackles against the Crimson Tide.
Henry would have more standout performances in his freshman season, including a two-interception game against Oklahoma State (one of which he returned for a touchdown), and a Liberty Bowl performance against Texas A&M in which he tallied eight unassisted tackles.
After a productive freshman season, Henry says he's developed his intangibles more.
"My confidence, leadership, it all went up. I ain't a freshman no more," he said.
"After 13 games for him, that's a long season for a true freshman," defensive coordinator Tony Gibson said. "And I think that he is more comfortable with what we do. We didn't add a whole lot to his plate. We're at the point now where he's playing at a high level and playing faster just because he understands it so much more."
