Duke LB David Helton receives University Scholar Athlete award

Published Apr. 30, 2015 9:38 a.m. ET

Linebacker David Helton has been showered with praise and recognition since his career at Duke came to an end, the latest being a University Scholar Athlete award from the National Football Foundation (NFF), according to a press release from Duke Sports Information.

Helton's most prestigious honor was the NFF's 2014 William V. Campbell Trophy, which is known as the "Academic Heisman." Right behind that recognition is the ACC's 2014 Jim Tatum Award, which is basically the conference's version of the Campbell Trophy.

The linebacker's excellence in the classroom is nothing new, after four-straight seasons as a member of the All-ACC Academic Football Team. He was also productive on the field, leading the ACC in tackles per game two years in a row.
