Neither Duke nor Georgia Tech is a good team. Both are irrelevant in the ACC race. So, what are you playing for with five games left? For the Yellow Jackets, a win over Duke would give them a very good shot of making a bowl game after missing out on one last year. For the Blue Devils, they could go winless in the ACC without this win.

Tech has won 18 of the last 21 meetings but dropped the last two. The Yellow Jackets started the season strong with three straight wins to open the year but went into a tailspin when they hit the tough part of their ACC schedule. Georgia Tech lost home games to Clemson and Miami and at Pittsburgh. They finally ended the slide with a 35-24 win over in-state foe Georgia Southern. Going forward the only game they may be favored in is Virginia, so unless they are going to upset one of the big boys playing for the divisional crown or Georgia at their place in a rivalry game this is a must-win for bowl eligibility.

Duke has fallen off big time after their 8-5 season last year. Injuries have forced them to go forward with true freshman quarterback Daniel Jones, and the results have been less than stellar. The 107th ranked offense and 62nd ranked passing offense is what you get when your freshman has nine touchdowns to eight interceptions. There are signs of improvement. He hasn’t thrown a pick in two games, and they played Louisville tight in their last game, only losing 24-14. However, their last four games are against the four best teams in the Coastal, so they are going to be hard pressed to find an ACC win if they don’t get this one.

Both teams are coming off a bye week. This is more advantageous for Duke as coaches love that extra week to work on defending Paul Johnson’s option offense. This is Georgia Tech’s Homecoming Weekend.

Georgia Tech opened as 8.5-point favorites, but the line has been bet down to under a touchdown at most places.
