Duke's Cutcliffe to be inducted into Alabama Sports Hall of Fame
Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe will be inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame, according to an announcement made by the school on Monday.
The Blue Devils coach is a native of Birmingham, Ala., and graduated from the University of Alabama in 1976.
Cutcliffe resurrected the Duke football program when he took it over in 2008 and went on to become a two-time ACC Coach of the Year, while being named the National Coach of the Year in 2013.
With the Devils’ victory over Indiana in this year’s Pinstripe Bowl, Cutcliffe has guided Duke on its most successful three-year period in school history. During that time the Devils have earned 27 victories, three consecutive bowl berths and an ACC championship.
Prior to his arrival at Durham, Cutcliffe helped capture five SEC championships and a national title while serving on the staff at Tennessee.
Following the 1998 title-winning season with the Vols, in which he won the Broyles Award as the country’s top assistant, Cutcliffe went on to accept the head coaching job at Ole Miss where he would go 44-29 in six seasons and be named the SEC Coach of the Year in 2003.
The induction ceremony will take in place on May 21 in the Birmingham Ballroom, at the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel.
