Eastern Washington head coach is nervous to face Vernon Adams because of 'how darn good' he is
Eastern Washington head coach Beau Baldwin is excited that his former quarterback, Vernon Adams Jr., is getting an opportunity to start for one of the best programs in the country. However, that doesn't mean he's exactly excited to see him play on Sept. 5. After all, Baldwin is now tasked with stopping Adams.
“I was excited for him,” Baldwin said about Adams getting the starting nod at Oregon. “Even when he got to start practice … I sent him a text and just congratulated him. I know how stir crazy he was going not being able to practice. Absolutely, you’re excited."
However, Baldwin went on to discuss his feelings as he prepares to play against his former playmaker.
“The other side of the emotion, and this is an absolute compliment to Vernon, is it also gave you a little nervousness because you know how darn good he is,” Baldwin said. “So it also puts you in that state of mind we’ve got to prepare against one of the best in the nation. We know that."
As for Adams' ability to make plays, Baldwin is sure that he'll see it again on Saturday.
“I’ve never seen (Adams) not make a lot of plays in any single game of his career,” Baldwin said. “He’s going to make plays. You have to put him in situations to make those plays a little bit tougher and make him earn everything he gets.”
