Ed Orgeron Tells Fans What To Expect From Leonard Fournette

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

After dealing with a nagging ankle injury that was aggravated in a loss against the Auburn Tigers, star running back Leonard Fournette is finally back on the field for LSU. He has been practicing all week, and will be ready to go for this tough conference stretch the Tigers face the rest of the season.

Earlier today, LSU interim coach Ed Orgeron went on an SEC media teleconference to let the fans and media know just what to expect from Fournette this week. According to Coach O, number seven is back to full speed and ready for this Saturday against the Ole Miss Rebels.

“He looks full-speed. But we are going to monitor him for when he does or doesn’t need a break.”

Fournette is apparently having zero issues whatsoever running the ball on that right ankle. The only thing that should be an issue is his lack of conditioning over the past three weeks and the need to get back into rhythm on the field.

“We asked how he felt with conditioning,” Orgeron said. “He said he’s fine… But we will use a full rotation.”

Rotating players at the position is smart on quite a few levels. Fournette will not be able to go all out this week, as the coaching staff will want to work him back in on that injured ankle and get him conditioned. Also throw in the fact that backup running back Derrius Guice is on an absolute tear as of late, and it makes perfect sense to split the carries between those two guys. Both are dynamic threats with the ball in their hands, so work Fournette back in slowly and don’t risk tweaking the injury again.
