Elon's Summers has season-ending injury

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 12:14 a.m. ET

(STATS) - Elon has lost Malcolm Summers, the second-leading rusher in the FCS, to a season-ending torn hamstring.

The junior was injured late in the No. 16 Phoenix's win over William & Mary on Oct. 7. They were on a bye this past weekend.

Summers carried the ball 134 times for 755 yards this season, a 125.8-yard average that ranks second in the FCS only to another CAA Football running back, Maine's Josh Mack. He also scored five touchdowns.

Summers is expected to have surgery this week. Elon (5-1) visits Rhode Island on Saturday.
