Virginia Tech defensive back Greg Stroman made the list, and is joined in the secondary with Clemson Tigers duo Cordrea Tankersley and Jadar Johnson, along with Duke’s Breon Borders.

Stroman has been as solid as they come on the nation’s seventh-ranked total defense, becoming a key cog against the pass for the Hokies. Stroman ranks second in the ACC and a tie for 13th in all of college football with nine total passes defended. Additionally, Stroman is tied for second in the ACC and tied for 10th nationally with three interceptions on the season.

It is safe to say that the re-emergence of the Hokies passing defense this season, the sixth-ranked unit in passing efficiency defense in all of college football, would not have been made possible without Stroman’s play.

While he is statistically having his best collegiate season of career, Stroman’s most valued attribute to the Hokies is his versatility. Stroman has played out on the boundary at corner against the opponent’s top receiver, in the slot against the opponent’s most elusive receiver, and in the nickel against both receivers and tight ends. Not only has Stroman been willing to play all over the field on defense, but he has clearly embraced the situation with his strong play no matter what the circumstances.

If the Hokies want to reach their goals of making and winning an ACC Championship, the continued success of Greg Stroman and the Hokies defense as a whole. For now though, it is good to see Stroman having a bounce back season in 2016 after an up-and-down, inconsistent first couple of seasons in Blacksburg, as well as receiving well-deserved recognition for the season he has put together to date.
