Farrier out as Morgan State football coach
(STATS) - Just over one year after removing the interim tag from his title, Morgan State has fired coach Fred Farrier.
The MEAC school said associate head coach Ernest Jones will serve as the interim coach for the 2018 season while it undergoes a national search for a permanent replacement.
"After having an in-depth opportunity to fully assess all aspects of our football program for the past year, we have decided to go in a new direction" athletic director Edward Scott said. "We thank Coach Farrier for his contributions and service to Morgan State University and our football team. We are confident that Coach Jones and the remaining coaches on staff are committed to serving the scholar-athletes in our football program throughout this period of transition."
Farrier was 4-18 in two seasons. Scott praised Farrier his performance as the interim coach in 2016, when Morgan State finished 3-8. After Farrier was named the permanent coach on Dec. 10, 2016, the Bears went 1-10 and finished last in the MEAC this season.
Jones has previous head coaching experience at Alcorn State and ASA Miami.
