Feldman's Heisman Top 5: Why Fournette's No. 1 rank is in real danger

Not a lot of change in our Top 5 since many of the nation’s best players were off this week, but Trevone Boykin helped his cause with another jaw-dropping display.

1. Leonard Fournette, LSU, RB: The spectacular sophomore is leading the nation in rushing by 45 yards over the No. 2 back. Fournette also has rushed for 15 TDs and has a chance to widen his lead next week at Alabama.

2. Trevone Boykin, TCU, QB: The best dual-threat quarterback in the country put on a dazzling show Thursday night in a blowout of WVU that at one point even had Mountaineers head coach Dana Holgorsen high-fiving him. Boykin is averaging 431 yards of total offense per game and has a 28-5 TD-INT ratio.

3. Derrick Henry, ’Bama, RB: With the big game against LSU coming up, he has a shot to surpass Fournette as the SEC’s top candidate. The 242-pound Henry has 14 rushing TDs this season and has run for 749 yards in five SEC games.

4. Christian McCaffrey, Stanford, RB/KR: He didn’t run wild in a rainy, ugly night at Washington State, but still topped 100 yards and drew so much attention that QB Kevin Hogan ran wild as the Cardinal rallied to hang on for a 30-28 win.

5. Ezekiel Elliott, Ohio State, RB: The Buckeyes also were off. Elliott’s position holds. He’s eclipsed the 100-yard mark in every game and has 13 rushing TDs.
