Finally some positive injury news for Horned Frogs

Published Sep. 15, 2015 3:07 p.m. ET

TCU's injury report reads like it should be November and not heading into the third week of September. It's been a brutal run for a defense that was down four starters last week and then lost a fifth.

Finally for some good news. Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson believes defensive tackle Davion Pierson will be back from injury this week as No. 3 TCU takes on visiting SMU. Pierson, the Frogs' most experienced defensive player, missed the first two games of the season with an undisclosed injury. The Frogs have lost their two starting linebackers (one to injury and one to an indefinite leave of absence) plus 2014 sack leader Sammy Douglas. Last week first-year starting defensive back Kenny Iloka was lost to a knee injury.

“He’s gone through the processes and looks better,” Patterson told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Even if he does play, I don’t know if we’ll start him just because of the context of the game. We can ease him back in. It’s a long season."

The only injury information Patterson has offered on Pierson, according to the Star-Telegram, is that he "tweaked" something and was working his way back. Pierson had 3.5 sacks last season. The 6-foot-2, 305-pounder leads the team with 31 starts and has played in 37 games.
