The latest ranking came out Tuesday -- with Jim McElwain's team climbing three spots to No. 8 overall. Based upon the remainder of its schedule, there's no question Florida could ultimately rise even further.
Two teams ahead of the Gators -- Oklahoma State, Notre Dame -- have tough games (against Oklahoma and Stanford, respectively), to close out the year. While the Gators should have no problem with FAU this weekend, a date with in-state rival Florida State occurs in the season finale.
A victory in that contest versus a respectable opponent -- coupled with a loss or two -- could ultimately vault Florida right into the mix for a top-four spot.
No. 2 Alabama is the highest-rated SEC team in the ranking. LSU (No. 15) and Ole Miss (No. 22) are the other conference programs within the Top-25.
