Florida State vs. Charleston Southern: Injury Report And Impact
Oct 30, 2014; Louisville, KY, USA; Florida State Seminoles fullback Freddie Stevenson (23) runs into the end zone for a touchdown during the fourth quarter against the Louisville Cardinals at Papa John
Florida State football will open up their home schedule at Doak Campbell Stadium on Saturday afternoon against Charleston Southern.
Coach Jimbo Fisher met with the media on Thursday after Florida State wrapped up practice as they prepare to welcome Charleston Southern to Tallahassee on Saturday afternoon.
Fisher talked a lot about the quick turnaround the Florida State team will face on Saturday after playing late Monday night. He thinks it’s not good at all for college athletes to heal among all the other things they have to juggle.
Fisher said, “We’re a work in progress and hopefully we’ll come out and play well on Saturday…keep getting better as we go….all good teams keep improving every week and hopefully we’ll do that this week.”

Fisher also announced that offensive lineman Cole Minshew will play this week. Minshew has been battling concussion issues all camp. It’ll be good to see how he performs and responds to game action.
Sh’Mar Kilby-Lane is academically ineligible. That’s the reason why Nick Patti was playing against Ole Miss when Ro’Derrick Hoskins got injured. Fisher said he didn’t feel it was the best time to put the true freshman Emmit Rice or Dontavious Jackson in the game.
He felt that Patti had a bit more experience and knew the assignments a little better. However, the true freshman are very close to being ready to play.

Notables Out
The only new name on the injury list is senior fullback Freddie Stevenson. It’s likely that he could play if he had to, but being that this game is against a FCS school it’s wise to allow time to heal.
The same goes for offensive lineman Kareem Are. It’s vital to get these players back in time for ACC Conference play that begins next week.
The ‘Noles will face their first true road test against conference division opponent Louisville.
Sean Maguire would likely be able to play if he had to. Fisher seemed non-committal on the idea of Maguire getting into the game on Saturday.
Either Fisher believes he has enough experience and doesn’t want to risk him re-aggravating the injury or he wants to see if JJ Cosentino can do anything.
Nate Andrews will likely see action in the secondary.

Charleston Southern Injuries
Charleston Southern suffered a major blow to their team in their second game of the season against Kentucky State.
Redshirt junior quarterback Kyle Copeland will miss the remained of the season after suffering a major injury in the first quarter of that game.

Copeland tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee. Their backup quarterback and redshirt freshman Shane Bucenell was also injured during their game last week.
Their third string quarterback and redshirt freshman London Johnson played the entire second half.
There’s no word on if Bucenell or Johnson will start, but either way Florida State will be facing a redshirt freshman will little game experience.
But not only that, there could be around 30 Charleston Southern players suspended for the Florida State game.

Impact
As we mentioned, this week is an opportunity for Kareem Are and Freddie Stevenson to get healed up and ready for ACC Conference play.
There will be no upsets on Saturday for Charleston Southern as the talent gap is just too wide.
Hopefully, Florida State will jump out in front early, and be able to pull their starters so younger players will have an opportunity to play and build critical depth.
Starting quarterback Deondre Francois and running back Dalvin Cook both got nicked up against Ol Miss. The earlier they can get out of the game, the better for the team.
Look for young players like true freshman running back Amir Rasul, true freshman defensive end Brian Burns and true freshman defensive back Levonta Taylor to get a lot of playing time.
