Flowers-led No. 19 USF faces Stony Brook in home opener

WHAT'S AT STAKE
USF opened the season with a 42-22 rout of San Jose State, overcoming an early 16-0 deficit in coach Charlie Strong's debut with the Bulls. They have scored at least 30 in a nation-leading 18 consecutive games. Stony Brook, which stepped up to Division I in 1999, is a facing an FBS opponent for the ninth time, The Seawolves are 1-7 in the previous eight games.
KEY MATCHUP
USF's high-powered offense, which set school records for total yards, rushing yards, touchdowns and scoring while winning a program-best 11 games last season, against a Stony Brook defense that will not face another opponent all season that has the size, strength and speed of the Bulls.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Stony Brook: RB Stacey Bedell rushed for 698 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2016. The senior has 12 career 100-yard games and is third on the Seawolves' career TD list with 23. QB Joe Carbone returns after completing 52 percent of his passes for 1,017 yards and three TDs last season.
USF: Quinton Flowers, one of the nation's top dual-threat QBs makes the Bulls go. He was the second-leading rusher in the country among quarterbacks behind Heisman Trophy winner Lamar Jackson last season and also threw for 2,812 yards while accounting for 42 TDs - 24 passing and 18 rushing. The senior had 282 yards total offense, threw for two TDs and ran for one against San Jose State. RB D'Ernest Johnson ran for 99 yards and two TDs in the opener.
