Former Alabama star running back has message for Clemson

Former Alabama star running back Shaun Alexander had his school rushing-record broken by current Crimson Tide rusher Derrick Henry. 

Although one might surmise some resentment over such an occurrence, Alexander was happy over the development -- expecting it to ultimately happen. 

"It's awesome. [Henry] is supposed to," Alexander told AL.com. "When you come to this university, your job is to carry the torch. Somebody will break Derrick's records or the ones that we're tied with and it's good."

Alexander relayed a heartfelt message for Clemson over Twitter -- while also praising his alma mater immensely. The former Seattle Seahawks running back had held the Crimson Tide rushing record for 16 years with 3,565 yards yards -- until Henry eclipsed that mark against Clemson. 

In Alexander's case, it's bigger than holding a statistical record. The winning nature of the university trumps everything else. 

"We want to win national championships. We want to carry the torch well and then pass the torch to the next guy and have him carry it," said Alexander.
