Former Miami safety Ed Reed signed a one-day contract with the Baltimore Ravens and announced his retirement from the NFL, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. Reed spent 11 seasons with the Ravens, where he made nine Pro Bowls and won a Super Bowl, before splitting his final season with the New York Jets and Houston Texans.

Reed intercepted 64 passes as a professional, ranking sixth all time. Seven of those interceptions were returned for touchdowns. Twice Reed returned fumbles for touchdowns and, in 2007, he returned a punt for a touchdown.

"Nobody has had, that I've seen, Ed Reed's range in combination with the ball skills to be such a playmaker. That's very rare," Ravens head coach John Harbaugh told the Baltimore Sun.

Before his Hall of Fame NFL career, Reed intercepted 21 passes as a Hurricane (1988-2001), returning four of them for touchdowns. Twice, he was recognized as a consensus All-American, and, in 2001, he was the Big East Defensive Player of the Year.
