Former star QB hits the campaign trail in South Carolina

Published Feb. 17, 2016 2:16 p.m. ET

Former South Carolina signal-caller Connor Shaw will forever go down as one of the top quarterbacks to play for the Gamecocks' program.

Leading the team during Steve Spurrier's "golden age" in Columbia, Shaw finished 27-5 as the starter -- including with an impeccable 17-0 home record.

Currently with the Cleveland Browns, Shaw recently decided to head back to the state of South Carolina -- but for a non-football related reason.

Via a report from The State, Shaw will be joining -- and supporting -- Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio throughout this upcoming week. Shaw will be present at two rallies for Rubio as he hopes to win the state ahead of Saturday's primary.

Interestingly enough, former Clemson signal-caller Tajh Boyd has also vocalized his support for a Republican presidential candidate -- appearing with Ohio governor John Kasich earlier in the race.

Rubio can only hope Shaw's rockstar status in South Carolina will help him secure votes -- and some buzz in the process.
