Former Wildcat Nick Foles Shines in NFL Return, shuts up naysayers

Former Wildcat Nick Foles returned to football action yesterday for the Kansas City Chiefs as Quarterback starter Alex Smith leaves the game with a concussion.

Smith suffered two head injuries yesterday in the first and third quarter which knocked him out of playing for large parts of the game. Former Wildcat Nick Foles came in for the now 5-2 Chiefs and performed in a big way.

The darling QB who had shined at the college level, and also found some success in the NFL so far, came up big when the Chiefs needed him most. Playing in arguably one of the toughest divisions in all of the NFL, the former starter turned back-up came in without missing a beat.

Arizona fans are certainly no stranger to the big play-making ability of Foles, but he showed once again yesterday why he’s been such a consistent player professionally and shouldn’t have been counted out or not worthy of a job.

Yesterday in Indianapolis, Foles finished the game 16/22 with 223 yards passing and two touchdowns. He helped pace the Chiefs to a 30-14 victory over the Andrew Luck led Colts.

Nick was a third round pick in 2012, going 88th overall to the Philadelphia Eagles. Initially, Foles was drafted by Andy Reid, and after playing with the St. Louis Rams last season, he now returns to Reid’s staff in Kansas City.

He has had a pretty successful career so far and showed himself to be more than serviceable yesterday. His stock just went up adding a more vertical game to the Chiefs offense.

Here are his stats so far in his five-year career:

Not bad for a quarterback who doesn’t make 72 million dollars (37 million guaranteed).

Here are some highlights from the game yesterday:

We are certainly happy to see Nick get a chance to shine, and he certainly did so yesterday, proving he is a good quarterback as we all had thought. Bear Down, Nick!
