At 6-foot-1, 168 pounds Mullen, a Pompano Beach, Fla., native, has good size for a corner and tremendous athleticism. Mullen is consider one of the best corners in the class of 2016 and turned down offers from LSU, Florida State, TCU and Louisville in order to play for Dabo Swinney and the Tigers.
Clemson’s secondary took a hit this offseason when its top corner, Mackensie Alexander, declared for the NFL Draft, and Swinney is hoping that Mullen will help soothe the pain of that loss.
“We’re losing a great, great corner who also happens to be from Florida … In Mackensie Alexander who is going to be a great pro,” Swinney told ESPN after the announcement. “So to be able to go back down to Florida and get a young man like Trayvon Mullen, who is one of the best in the country … It’s a big, big, big, get for us.”
