Four-star prospect and UGA legacy Woerner commits to Georgia

The Georgia Bulldogs continue to add to their impressive 2016 recruiting class with the commitment of athlete Charlie Woerner.

Woerner is rated as a four-star prospect by 247Sports and currently has scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Oregon and Tennessee among others.

The Bulldogs' latest addition to their 2016 class is the nephew of former UGA All-American Scott Woerner. The elder Woerner was on Georgia's 1980 national championship team and helped seal the 1981 Sugar Bowl with an interception against Notre Dame.

“It was last week when Charlie decided he wanted to go to Georgia,” Kent Woerner, Charlie's father, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution. “He called us into the living room and said ‘Mom and Dad, I am thinking about committing to Georgia next week.’ His mom and I just looked at each other, and said ‘OK, Charlie. Are you sure? You’re not just doing this because it’s the easiest thing to do?’ He said, ‘No, it’s the best fit for me.’

“He liked all the things that Coach Richt talked about with the program, with the academics and helping the players after football. Charlie has heard me say this to all his brothers and sisters, ‘Your education comes first.’ That’s what he’s going to be focused on — getting his education and playing for the Dawgs.”

The Bulldogs now have 14 collective commitments in their latest recruiting class, which is considered to by a consensus top 10 nationally ranked group.
