A little over a year after verbally pledging to Alabama, four-star cornerback Shyheim Carter out of Kentwood, La., has decommitted.

According to AL.com, Carter announced Monday on his private Twitter page that "I'm officially decommitting from the University of Alabama."

According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Carter is the fifth-best cornerback recruit in the country and the No. 51 prospect overall.

While Carter has not publicly announced any favorites since his decommitment or ruled out a recommitment to Alabama, it is believed that Georgia, Ole Miss and in-state school LSU (in no particular order) are now the leaders in his recruitment. All three were considered strong candidates prior to his commitment to the Crimson Tide.

Carter also reportedly said at The Opening that he was interested in taking an official visit to Oregon, although that visit has not yet occurred.
