On Thursday, Virginia governor Terry McAuliffe declared it to be “Frank Beamer Day,” honoring recently retired Virginia Tech head coach.

Beamer was invited to the state capitol where he was saluted by a host of Virginia Tech fans. Beamer, who stepped down at the end of the 2015 season after 29 years of coaching, was the FBS’ winningest active coach before he retired. Beamer finished his career with a 238-121-2 record and guided the Hokies to 23 consecutive bowl games.
