Freshman QB Lock looks like the real deal to his QB coach

The Missouri Tigers landed one of their most heralded quarterback prospects in years when U.S. Army All-American Drew Lock pledged to Mizzou over Ohio State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Tennessee and Texas among many other scholarship offers last winter.

Now that Lock has arrived to campus and has thrown in front of the coaches in practice for the first time, what does his position coach Andy Hill see in him? According to the St. Louis Dispatch, he is quite impressed.

“He’s pretty good,” said Hill, who recruited Lock. “He’s really smooth. Great delivery. Really tight delivery. The ball comes out and spins well. He knows where he’s going with the football. He’s got really good location, good pitch location. He’s been fun to watch.”

While Lock does look impressive, and has stated in the past his desire to start this season, Maty Mauk has the starting spot all but locked down heading into the season. However, if Mauk continues to play inconsistently and even regresses from his sophomore form, could Lock see the field this season?

“It’s still to be determined,” Hill said. “We’ve practiced six days. We’re always telling those guys, ‘Be ready to play, prepare like you’re going to play this year.’ At the same time if all of our guys stay healthy, it’s a tall ladder to climb (for Lock).”

Regardless of when he hits the field, Missouri fans have reason to be excited about the future at the quarterback position.
