Fresno State fires head coach Tim DeRuyter
Fresno State fired coach Tim DeRuyter on Sunday after four plus seasons, the school announced.
The move was made after the Bulldogs fell to 1-7 on the season after a 38-20 loss to Utah State on Saturday.
"Tim DeRuyter is a man of high character – a class individual who is a leader of young men," Athletic director Jim Bartko said. "Over the time I've been here, the football program has shown it has the ability to be a product the Red Wave can be excited about, but the results have not been to the standard we anticipated and expect."
Offensive coordinator Eric Kiesau was named the interim head coach.
DeRuyter had a 30-30 record at Fresno State, going 20-6 during his first two seasons, while winning two Mountain West Conference championships with Derek Carr at quarterback. DeRuyter has two years remaining on a five-year deal that was worth a total of $7.5 million.
The school said that they will begin a search for the next head football coach immediately.
