Frogs injury woes grow with fifth defensive starter lost in rout
No. 3 TCU put up 70 points in its home opening blowout win Saturday, but it absorbed another significant loss to their defense.
First-year starting safety Kenny Iloka became the fifth Horned Frogs starter lost when he left the game with an apparent knee injury.
After the 70-7 wipeout of FCS Stephen F. Austin, TCU coach Gary Patterson said, "Unfortunately, we probably lost another one," in reference to Iloka.
TCU's entered the second game of the season already severely shorthanded with 2014 sack leader James McFarland, tackle Davion Pierson and linebacker Sammy Douglas out with injuries. True freshman starting linebacker Mike Freeze took an indefinite leave of absence earlier in the week, leaving TCU without its two starting linebackers.
An significant amount of time missed by Iloka could be significant. Patterson has already begun to move players to different positions to fill voids. Converted safety Travin Howard moved to linebacker, and was touted Saturday by Patterson as having played the best among the linebackers, and will likely start next week when the Horned Frogs welcome SMU.
