Furman tabs Hendrix as football coach

(STATS) - Furman named Air Force offensive coordinator Clay Hendrix, a former Paladins' player and assistant coach, as its coach Monday.

The 23rd head coach in Furman history succeeds Bruce Fowler, who resigned on Dec. 2 after six seasons, including a 3-8 finish this year.

Buddie has spent 10 seasons at Air Force, including the last seven as offensive coordinator. He will remain with the Falcons through the Arizona Bowl on Dec. 30.

A former offensive guard at Furman from 1982-85, Hendrix coached the position with the Paladins for 19 seasons from 1988-2006. During that time, the Paladins posted a 155-77-1 record with six Southern Conference championships, 11 NCAA FCS (formerly I-AA) playoff appearances, the 1988 national title and a national runner-up finish in 2001.

His wife, LeeAnn, is also a Furman graduate.
