Oregon State head coach Gary Andersen would love to keep defensive coordinator Kalani Sitake in Corvallis; however, he believes that Sitake should be BYU's next head coach.
"In my opinion, there is one guy [for BYU] to hire, so what are you doing?" Andersen said, via The Salt Lake Tribune. "… He should be on the sidelines for the [Las Vegas Bowl]."
BYU is currently searching for its next head coach after Bronco Mendenhall accepted the same position at the University of Virginia. The job was offered to Navy's Ken Niumatalolo; however, he turned down the job on Wednesday. Sitake is thought to be a leading candidate for the Cougars job.
Andersen not only believes Sitake is the best man for the job, but he has encouraged his defensive coordinator to accept the position if it is offered to him.
"There's not very many of those jobs that are out there," said Andersen. "If he has an opportunity to get this job, he should."
Andersen would also like for BYU to expedite its hiring process. If Sitake takes the job at BYU, he would need to find a new defensive coordinator. The longer BYU waits, the less options Andersen has.
"You would hate BYU's process of hiring somebody and taking a while to hire somebody to hinder us being able to move forward," Andersen said.
