Guerriero's career-high 209 yards lead Monmouth over Hampton
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — Pete Guerriero ran for a career-high 209 yards on 21 carries and had three touchdown runs on Saturday to help Monmouth win its home opener 56-28 over Hampton.
Kenji Bahar completed 15 of 26 passes for 326 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions for the Hawks (1-1).
Hampton (1-1) scored the first 14 points of the game with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns and then Monmouth scored 42 straight points, capped by a pair of touchdown passes from Bahar to Jake Powell early in the third quarter.
Guerriero's third TD run gave Monmouth a 49-21 lead on the final play of the third quarter. Bahar's 25-yard TD pass to Vinny Grasso capped the scoring midway through the fourth quarter.
Reggie White Jr. had five catches for 145 yards and Powell had five catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Delmon Williams threw for 339 yards, three TDs and one interception for the Pirates.
