Harris doing the job at QB for LSU

Published Oct. 1, 2015 3:19 p.m. ET

Although he doesn't have gaudy numbers statistically, LSU quarterback Brandon Harris is playing the quarterback position effectively.

Harris has thrown for 302 yards and two touchdowns on the season (in three games of action). While those numbers won't blow anyone away, he's yet to throw an interception. Taking care of the football is something every football team tries to heed.

This isn't lost on his head coach Les Miles. Harris is playing with a sense of responsibility and poise.

"I see a same demeanor, I see the enjoyment of the responsibility," said Miles. "I think he's stepping very ably into the huddle and to the line of scrimmage and doing the things we expect him to do, that now he's expecting to do more regularly."

With a rushing attack as vaunted as the one LSU has, it will try to ground-and-pound virtually every team it faces on its schedule. Harris likely won't be asked to do too much in the passing game, although play-action opportunities will likely present themselves with regularity for sophomore signal-caller.

This will especially be true when opponents stack the box in order to "slow" Leonard Fournette. There could be some favorable one-on-one perimeter matchups to exploit with the likes of Malachi Dupre and Travin Dural.
