Hodges accounts for 6 TDs as Samford rolls over Shorter 66-9
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Devlin Hodges threw for 330 yards and five touchdowns and ran for another score as Samford opened the season by destroying Division II Shorter 66-9 on Thursday night.
This was the first meeting between the schools and Samford made quick work of the Hawks as Hodges threw four scoring strikes in the second quarter to go up 45-0 at the half.
Kelvin McKnight hauled in six catches for 119 yards and two touchdowns on the night as Samford rolled up 556 total yards compared to 249 for the Hawks. Hodges completed 25 of 36 attempts with no interceptions. Roland Adams rushed for 71 yards and one score with DeMarcus Ware adding another rushing touchdown.
Shorter's Tyler Pullum was picked off three times as Christian Stark, Alec Happel and Aaron Atkinson each had an interception. Pullum was 17-of-30 passing for 138 yards with one touchdown.
