Hokies Ranked 18th in AP Poll, 22nd in Coaches' Poll
Hokies move up in the AP Poll, but slide a spot in the Amway Coaches’ Poll
The Virginia Tech Hokies moved to 7-2 on the season (5-1 in the ACC) after a 24-21 victory over the Duke Blue Devils in Durham, North Carolina on Saturday afternoon.
Despite coasting to a 21-7 halftime lead, the Hokies limped to the finish line in the second half, struggling to closeout a well-coached Duke squad.

As a result, the Hokies moved down one spot in the Amway Coaches’ Poll, falling from number 21 in the polls last week, to number 22 in the polls heading into Week 12.
In the AP Poll, voters were much more bullish on Tech despite their sloppy win, as Justin Fuente’s squad jumped from number 23 in the nation to number 18 in the latest poll released on Sunday afternoon.
Of course, neither of these polls matter all that much this time of year relative to the College Football Playoff Poll, which is to be released for the second time this season on Tuesday evening. In the inaugural rankings released last Tuesday, the Hokies premiered at #19 overall, becoming one of five ACC schools represented in the poll.
With a plethora of teams in front of them losing on Saturday, the Hokies are primed to move up in the latest installment of the rankings, in spite of their less-than-decisive victory over the Blue Devils in Week 10.
