How to Watch Illinois Fighting Illini at Wisconsin Badgers: TV, Live Stream and More
Wisconsin looks to keep the momentum going towards Indianapolis against Illinois.
If you would have told me at the beginning of the season that, with three games remaining, the Wisconsin Badgers would be in the driver’s seat to the Big Ten championship game I would have thought you were nuts. But that is where we stand when the 7-2 and 7th ranked College Football Playoff Badgers host the Illinois Fighting Illini Saturday afternoon.
With a healthy Corey Clement back to his old self and Dare Ogunbowale playing at a high level, Wisconsin has been running the football very well in the past four games. In those four games, the Badgers have had a 100-yard rusher in each of those, with Clement having three and Ogunbowale one. Averaging 204 yards per game in those four contests, the Badgers are looking like the team we have come to know over the years.
On defense, Wisconsin continues to play at high level and shows no signs of slowing down. They have allowed just 13.8 points per game, tied for third with Ohio State in the country. And they have done this with numerous injuries on the defensive side, but have not missed a beat with players coming off the bench and filling in. Wisconsin ranks fifth in rushing defense allowing 101.2 yards per game, 30th in passing yards allowed with 201.6 per game, and 11th in total defense with 302.8 yards per game in nine games. With a stout defense coupled with a rejuvenated rushing attack, Wisconsin has been able to control the football ranking sixth in the country in averaging 34 minutes per game.
The other sideline is a completely different story. On offense, Illinois is a mess ranking 121st in total offense and is near the bottom of the Big Ten in points scored per game with 23.6. Redshirt freshman quarterback Jeff George Jr. will make his fourth start against the Badgers, filling in for the injured Wes Lunt. One thing Illinois does have going for itself is one small part of their defense. The Illini rank fifth in the country in tackles for loss, averaging 8.4 per game.
To this point of the season, Wisconsin has shocked many, if not all, in the college football world. With Ohio State trouncing Nebraska a week ago, the path to Indianapolis and their fourth Big Ten championship game appearance has become much clearer.
