Huskers land on 'most tortured' CFB fan base list
When you think about a fan base being "tortured", you may think about a school that loses 8 or more games a season and has never seen championship glory. For this list that your may not want to see you school on, it's all about teams who have all the promise in the world, but just can't get that championship aura.
Lost Lettermen put out the list and Nebraska comes in at number six. Husker fans know very well that the team hasn't won a conference title since 1999 but what was the full rationale? Check it out:
"Husker fans got accustomed to a certain lifestyle during Tom Osborne’s sparkling three-decade run (plus a few bonus years under Frank Solich) that included three national titles in the 1990s. Then came Bill Callahan, who gave the school its first two losing seasons since 1961, in just four years. It was a jarring 180 for Nebraska fans, who not only didn’t know what it was like to lose, but what it was like not to win double-digit games every season.
Bo Pelini came in and lost exactly four games each season, a torturous model of consistency that marked a seven-year stretch of “almost, but not quite” Husker football, which hasn’t yet achieved dominance since its move to the lean Big Ten West. The ultimate gut-punch came in the 2009 Big 12 Championship when an errant Colt McCoy pass as time expired led Nebraska to celebrate, believing they’d pulled the upset over No. 3 Texas. But a second was put back on the clock and Texas yanked back victory, hitting the game-winning field goal."
What do you think Husker fans? Are your beloved Cornhuskers too high, too low, or should they be on this list at all?
