Huskies have plenty of room for growth, especially on offense
While the Washington Huskies struggled offensively against Boise State, there were some positives to come from the 16-13 loss. The Huskies defense dominated the second half at the point of attack and the special teams, outside of a missed field goal to tie the game at the end, were fantastic.
However, that doesn't mean that true freshman QB Jake Browning felt good about the loss. In fact, he was sick to his stomach.
“Doesn’t feel good at all,” Browning said. “When we get momentum behind us (like UW did in the second half), we’re a pretty good team. That starts with me. I can’t come out here thinking, ‘I’m a true freshman.’ Got to come out and think, ‘Win.’ ”
While Browning certainly wasn't great under center for the Huskies, his toughness and ability to scramble impressed some of his teammates.
“He’s definitely tougher than I thought he would be,” UW nose tackle Elijah Qualls said. “He broke a few tackles … so that definitely impressed me.”
It's a building process for Washington head coach Chris Petersen and his staff. They'll have a chance to improve again this week as they take on Sacramento State.
