Illinois Football: Antwan Collier Picks Central Florida
Overall, the class of 2017 has gone pretty well for the Illinois football team.
The Illini received another commitment last night making No. 13 for 2017 and there are more to come, I am sure of that.
But, there was one minor blip on the radar as far as recruiting goes. That blip was cornerback Antwan Collier.

Collier is rated as a 3-star recruit who is the No. 1042 player in the class of 2017 and the No. 143 player in the state of Florida.
Back on February 23, Collier was offered a scholarship by the Illini. This was still under the prior Bill Cubit regime, though.
Time went on and Collier received more scholarship offers and Illinois actually kept their offer extended to him throughout the process.
On August 1, Collier decided to make a commitment and he picked the Illini. This was a nice pickup for Illinois considering they need defensive back help.
After that commitment, some more time passed and Collier ended up decommitting from Illinois, and yesterday he decided that the next four years will be spent with the Central Florida Knights.
More from Writing Illini
I was hoping that Illinois would still be the landing spot for Collier because he said they were still in the mix, but logic told me that the majority of decommitments usually go to a different program.
The class of 2017 hasn’t had many blemishes for Lovie Smith and the Illinois football team, but Collier was one of them.
This does take away from the potential depth of the Illinois secondary, but they still have Tony Adams coming in for 2017.
Adams is listed as a 3-star recruit who is more towards a 4-star than a 2-star. He is going to be a nice addition at the cornerback position.
Illinois has one new body coming in next season at defensive back and they have a few others that were really starting to develop last season as well.
I would like to see Illinois snag one or two more defensive backs for the class of 2017, but if they don’t, I think everything will still be alright.
Losing a player like Collier hurts, but it is not the end of the world. I wish nothing but the best for him and We Will Win.
