Illinois Football: Projected Offensive Depth Chart Against Minnesota
The offensive depth chart seems like it changes weekly for the Illinois football team.
Lovie Smith and Garrick McGee are just trying to piece together a team that can win some football games. That is a difficult task for these first-year Illini coaches.
Here is what I think the depth chart will be for the homecoming game against Minnesota.
Quarterback – Wes Lunt started the first 5 games but went down with an injury. The last two games (1-1 record) were not the greatest by Chayce Crouch and Jeff George Jr.
For the future of the program, I would like to see George get another start. But, considering that Lunt is a senior and gives the Illini the best chance to win, I think he will start if healthy.
Running Back – Kendrick Foster has been the starting running back the last two games and he has run well. He eclipsed the 100-yard mark in the Rutgers start and averaged 5.6 yards per carry against Michigan.

I see Foster getting the start against Minnesota this week. I am curious to see who backs him up between Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Reggie Corbin, though.
Wide Receiver – The two starting wide receivers haven’t changed the entire season. Malik Turner is the No. 1 wide receiver alongside the No. 2 wide receiver Justin Hardee.
This duo will likely not change for the Minnesota game.
Tight End – In the last game against Michigan, Illinois went with a two-tight end set. Ainslie Johnson and Tyler White both received the starting nod.
The only change to this is possibly Lovie and McGee going back to the single tight end set and replacing Johnson with wide receiver Zach Grant. But, for now, I think they stick with two tight ends.
Offensive Tackle – Christian DiLauro has been one of the two starting offensive tackles the entire season. This will not change against Minnesota on Saturday.
The only time Austin Schmidt hasn’t started alongside DiLauro at offensive tackle was against Nebraska. It is likely that he will be the other offensive tackle this week.
Offensive Guard – Nick Allegretti has started all but one game this season at the offensive guard position. I don’t have a doubt he starts this week against the Golden Gophers.
But, the other starting offensive guard position could be up in the air. Gabe Megginson has had the most starts with four. Connor Brennan started this past game against Michigan, though.
From the way McGee was talking in this interview, he sounded the like Megginson might be riding the pine until he improves. I would assume Brennan gets another start this week.
Center – The center for every game this season besides week one has been Joe Spencer. He is a rock on this team and one of the best linemen we have. There is no doubt he gets the nod again.
